الوصف
The present study employed an interpretivist discourse and narrative inquiry to explore and understand the experiences of female Muslim leaders in Qatar in higher education. Through convenience sampling, a female leader with more than five years of leadership was selected for the study. Three semi-structured interviews, with each meeting being 60–90 minutes in duration and three non-participant observations were also carried out to triangulate the data. I implemented a case study approach to present the narrative of one Qatari female leader in higher education to reveal her lived Islamic educational leadership story. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed for codes manually. Preliminary coding was done following which a secondary set of coding was carried out that merged some of the themes under larger themes. The findings from Sara’s narrative revealed two main overarching themes: female Islamic leadership in higher education in Qatar and leadership support system and challenges. Following the analysis of Sara’s narrative in the light of Islamic leadership theory and practice, it is clear that the theory provides great insights into leadership theories in general and has the potential to be extended to the field of higher education in addition to extensive studies conducted in the field of K–12 education. Thus, the all-encompassing nature of Islam in community life emphasizes that these leadership behaviors and practices are not restricted to Muslims alone to practice; rather all communities can embrace it.
